Vendor : New Mahr Federal Height Gage
Offers Easy-to-Use Precision for Shop Floor Measurements
PROVIDENCE RI, USA -– Designed with production personnel in mind, the new Digimar® 816 CL Height Gage from Mahr Federal provides highly accurate measurements without complicated procedures. Robust design and user-friendly operation combine with advanced features and functionality to improve dimensional measurement on the shop floor or in the lab.
The robust design of the Digimar 816 CL utilizes a precise measuring head on stainless steel guideways and a dynamic probing system. Air bearings provide light and smooth movement, while accuracy and reliability are ensured by an optical incremental measurement system with a double head reader which is impervious to dust and other contamination.
A motorized measuring carriage minimizes operator influence on probe contact, increases accuracy, and simplifies measurement runs.
Key to measurement accuracy in production environments is the Digimar 816 CL's internal temperature compensation system.

Vendor : 8-Channel Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexer (CWDM)
With low insertion loss, wide passband, high channel isolation, high stability & reliability with an epoxy free optical path
Toronto, Canada –- GAO Fiber Optics has announced the availability of its 8-channel Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexer (CWDM) intended for such applications as line monitoring used in WDM networks, cellular applications, fiber optic amplifiers, access networks and telecommunication systems. The CWDM allows for great flexibility by increasing the capacity of existing fiber infrastructure eliminating the need to lay new fiber at a full capacity location.
The flexible CWDM is characterized by low insertion loss, wide passband, high channel isolation, high stability and reliability and an epoxy free optical path. It operates within the wavelength range of 1260 nm to 1620 nm at a 20 nm channel spacing.

Applications : LIBS Technology Spots Fake Antiques
Ocean Optics’ Spectroscopy brings science to ceramics evaluation at Beijing Antique City
Dunedin FL, USA -– Technology from Ocean Optics is being used in China’s Beijing Antique City to separate authentic ceramic antiques from fakes. Nationally recognized antiques appraiser Guan Haisen employs an Ocean Optics Laser-induced Breakdown Spectrometer system (LIBS), with QE65000 spectrometer, to help him identify artificially aged ceramics and artifacts. The LIBS system uses a laser to burn away a microscopic area (invisible to the naked eye) of the object under test, causing a plasma to form. The plasma is then analyzed for the key elements of interest, such as chemicals used to simulate the process of aging. The entire test takes less than 30 seconds.
Currently, the ceramics examination industry in China relies heavily on the appraiser’s knowledge and experience. LIBS analysis brings a level of technical accuracy to antique identification.

Vendor : Maple Systems Expands Allen-Bradley & Siemens Support
Cryptic variable tags now can be replaced with more appropriate ones
Everett WA, USA -- Maple Systems has just expanded their PLC support to more fully integrate their HMIs with controllers from Allen Bradley and Siemens. This important expansion in capabilities comes with their newest release of EZware.Among the enhancements of this upgrade is the ability to utilize tags with Allen-Bradley Controllers in such a way that they can be named with descriptive text the programmer chooses rather than having tag names based on PLC memory addresses.
This is important on two levels. First, it means that your Maple HMI can work with an Allen-Bradley controller without changing the coding of the controller itself. That allows you to place a Maple HMI into an established Allen-Bradley process without disrupting the existing controller program.
